MEA Responds to Trump’s Reported Comments on PM Modi’s Career

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) addressed reports on Thursday regarding US President Donald Trump’s alleged remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political career. The ministry stated it has not yet seen the video but will take appropriate action if necessary.

MEA Seeks Verification of Reported Remarks

During a weekly press briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was asked about the President’s recent comments. Jaiswal clarified the government’s stance, saying, “I have not seen the video… However, if such a video exists—whether it is true or false—we will take appropriate action on it.”

While the remarks were reportedly made in October, the video has recently resurfaced on social media. In the recording, President Trump calls PM Modi a “great man” and says “he loves Trump” before making a comment regarding the Prime Minister’s political career.

Trump Hails “Historic” India-US Trade Deal

In a separate development, President Trump once again praised a recent trade agreement with India, calling it “historic.” Speaking at a “Champion of Coal” event on Wednesday, February 11, the President highlighted the growth of American energy exports.

“Under our leadership, we are becoming a massive energy exporter. In just the past few months, we have made historic trade deals with Japan, Korea, India, and others to increase our coal exports dramatically,” Trump said.

He added that the U.S. is now exporting what he described as “the finest” quality coal to countries all over the world.

Progress on Trade Agreements

These comments follow an announcement last week that the U.S. and India have reached a framework for an interim trade agreement. This deal is expected to lower tariffs and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.

Under the new framework, India has committed to purchasing $500 billion worth of U.S. products over the next five years, including energy, technology, and coking coal. In return, the U.S. has agreed to reduce reciprocal tariffs on various Indian exports to 18%.
