Kolkata Residents Feel Tremors After 6.1 Magnitude Earthquake in Myanmar

Strong tremors were felt across Kolkata and nearby areas on Tuesday evening. The shaking followed a 6.1 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Myanmar, according to officials from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The quake jolted several parts of eastern and northeastern India.

The earthquake struck Myanmar around 9:05 pm and lasted for several seconds. Residents in high-rise buildings and employees in city offices reported feeling the vibrations. Many people took to social media to share their experiences shortly after the ground stopped shaking.

No Damage Reported

Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage in Kolkata or the surrounding regions. Emergency services remain alert, but the situation appears stable.

Tracking the Source

“The epicenter was located in Myanmar,” an IMD official confirmed. “We are currently analyzing the data to pinpoint the exact location. The earthquake measured 6.1 on the Richter scale.”

Authorities continue to monitor the situation for any potential aftershocks.
