Hardeep Puri Denies Epstein Allegations: “I Have No Interest in These Activities”

Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Puri strongly rejected allegations made by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, regarding the “Epstein files.” The controversy began when the Congress party claimed that Puri’s name appeared in documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late American offender.

On Wednesday, Minister Puri dismissed these charges during a briefing, explaining that his only connection was a single, professional email. He clarified that he met Epstein through the International Peace Institute and stated firmly that he had “no interest” in Epstein’s alleged illegal activities.

Puri Criticizes Rahul Gandhi’s Conduct in Parliament

During the briefing, Minister Puri criticized Rahul Gandhi’s behavior and remarks in Parliament. He accused the Congress leader of having a “habit of making baseless allegations” without staying to hear the government’s response.

Puri highlighted two different styles of leadership:

  • Service-Oriented Leaders: Those who take responsibility within the political system and work to transform the country. He noted that under such leadership, India has grown from the 10th largest economy to the 4th, with plans to become the 3rd largest soon.
  • Absentee Leaders: Those who travel abroad frequently and, according to Puri, fail to engage with substantial discussions in Parliament.

“Two Kinds of Leaders”

Without naming Gandhi directly at first, Puri suggested that some politicians prefer to walk out of the House rather than participate in serious debate. He alleged that Gandhi left the House immediately after delivering his speech on Wednesday.

“Today, after giving his speech, he left,” Puri added. “You know the leader I am referring to.” He concluded by suggesting that this pattern shows a lack of respect for parliamentary procedures and the responses provided by the government.
