Telangana Government Considers Salary Cuts for Employees Who Neglect Parents

The Telangana government is planning a new law to cut the salaries of state employees who do not care for their parents. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy announced that the government intends to reduce the pay of such employees by 10% to 15%.

According to reports, the Congress led government will introduce this legislation during the upcoming state budget session. The goal is to ensure public servants fulfill their family responsibilities.

Financial Consequences for Neglecting Parents

While addressing newly recruited Group I and Group II officers at the Marri Channa Reddy Human Resources Development Institute (MCHRD), the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of family values. He stated that once the law is active, employees who neglect their parents will face direct financial penalties.

Partnership with Harvard University

During his speech, Revanth Reddy also shared that the MCHRD institute will soon sign a formal agreement with Harvard University. Under this partnership, experts in public administration from Harvard will visit Telangana to train local government officials.

Updates on State Recruitment

The Chief Minister also spoke about the recruitment process, criticizing the previous government’s record. He noted that while approximately 600,000 people applied for positions, only 582 candidates were selected for Group I roles and 1,775 for Group II roles.

The plan for this new law began in October 2025, when the Chief Minister asked Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao to form a committee to draft the legislation.

Telangana Budget Session 2026

The Budget Session for the Telangana Legislature is set to start on March 16, 2026. The session will begin with an address by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma. Following this, a committee will meet to finalize the schedule.

On March 20, Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka will present the annual budget for the 2026–27 financial year.
