PM Modi Witnesses IAF Aerial Show at New Assam Emergency Landing Facility
Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an impressive aerial display by the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Saturday. The show featured fighter jets and transport helicopters at the new Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Assam’s Dibrugarh district.
Earlier that day, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 4.2-km landing strip in Moran. This facility is the first of its kind in the Northeast region.
Precision Drills and Fighter Jet Displays
During the 20-minute event, IAF pilots practiced precision take-offs and landings on the Moran Bypass. A Sukhoi-30 MKI was the first jet to take off, followed shortly by a Rafale aircraft. The IAF’s An-32 transport helicopter also performed a “touch and go” maneuver, showing its ability to move cargo and passengers quickly.
The crowd then watched as groups of Sukhoi-30 MKIs and Rafale jets flew over Moran in quick succession. While some aircraft landed directly at the facility, others performed high-speed low passes over the landing strip.
Commando Drills and Relief Operations
The display also highlighted the capabilities of the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH). These helicopters dropped off commandos at the airstrip to demonstrate special military operations. Additionally, another group of helicopters showed how they perform medical evacuations and relief missions during emergencies.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma noted that this was the most detailed exercise ever held at an emergency landing facility, involving approximately 16 different aircraft.
About the Emergency Landing Facility (ELF)
The new facility cost nearly Rs 100 crore to build. It was designed in partnership with the IAF to ensure that both military and civilian planes can land and take off safely during emergencies or natural disasters.
