Galgotias University Asked to Vacate Booth at India AI Impact Summit 2026 Over Robotic Dog Row
Galgotias University was asked to vacate its booth at India AI Impact Summit 2026 after claims that it falsely showcased a Chinese-made robotic dog as its own.
The university has now responded to the controversy and strongly denied the allegations.
University Issues Official Clarification
The Greater Noida-based university said it never claimed to have built the robotic dog.
In an official statement, the university said, “Let us be clear. Galgotias has not built this robotic dog, nor have we claimed to do so. Our focus is on building young minds that will soon design, engineer and manufacture such technologies in India.”
How the Controversy Began
The issue started after a video from the summit went viral on social media. In the clip, representatives at the Galgotias University stall are seen presenting a robotic dog.
They said the robot moves around their campus regularly and can be used for different purposes, including surveillance. They also explained that it can take photographs in narrow or hard-to-reach areas.
After the video spread widely, several media outlets questioned whether the university had presented the robot as its own innovation. Some reports claimed that Galgotias University projected the robotic dog as an in-house development during a showcase linked to its planned Rs 350 crore-plus investment in artificial intelligence.
Reports Link Robot to Chinese Manufacturer
Some reports said the robotic dog looked similar to the Unitree Go2, made by China-based company Unitree Robotics.
The Unitree Go2 is a mass-produced robot that is available for commercial purchase on global online platforms. It is priced at around USD 2,800, which is approximately Rs 2.3 lakh.
These reports further claimed that the robot displayed at the summit closely resembled this model.
University Denies Development Claims
Despite the allegations, the university has maintained that it never claimed to have developed the robotic dog.
It clarified that the robot was acquired from a global robotics company based in China. According to the university, the device is being used only as a learning and demonstration tool for students.
The university said the exhibit was meant to highlight its larger plan to invest over Rs 350 crore in building a sustainable artificial intelligence ecosystem.
Focus on AI Ecosystem and Student Exposure
Along with the robotic dog, the university also showcased AI-based startups incubated under the Galgotias Incubation Centre (GICRISE). It also displayed applications developed at its iOS Development Centre.
According to the university, the robot was part of a broader display to show how students are being exposed to emerging technologies in artificial intelligence and robotics.
