The flight was bound for Bengaluru from Heathrow when the fuel switch glitch occurred, and it was reportedly grounded. An Air India Boeing Dreamliner suffered another fuel switch failure on Monday. Flight AI 132 was flying from London’s Heathrow Airport to Bengaluru when the issue was detected, leading to the aircraft being grounded.
According to an airline spokesperson quoted by NDTV, the left fuel control switch failed to remain in the “run” position on two occasions. Instead, it moved to the “cutoff” position during engine start-up. The defect is being linked to the earlier AI-171 crash.
In a statement, the airline said, “We are aware that one of our pilots has reported a possible defect in the fuel control switch of a Boeing 787-8 aircraft. After receiving this initial information, we have grounded the aircraft. We are working with the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) to review the pilot’s concerns on a priority basis.”
The airline also said that it had earlier examined the issue and that all related details have been communicated to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
