The restrictions will help ensure smooth security arrangements for the VVIP movement and prevent traffic congestion.

Mumbai Traffic Restrictions on Western Express Highway for Feb. 17

The Mumbai Traffic Police have announced temporary traffic restrictions on the Western Express Highway on February 17 due to the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron.

These measures are being taken to ensure smooth security arrangements and to avoid traffic congestion on this busy road.

According to the traffic police, all heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be completely banned on both northbound and southbound lanes of the Western Express Highway. The restriction will apply between Vakola Flyover and Dahisar Toll Naka from 8 am to 9 pm on February 17.

Emergency services will not be affected. Ambulances, fire brigades, police vehicles, and government vehicles assigned to VVIP security will be allowed to use the highway. Traffic officials may also permit certain vehicles if needed for operational reasons.

Alternative Routes in Colaba

Traffic restrictions have also been placed on key roads in Colaba to manage vehicle movement and allow smooth access for emergency services.

The stretch of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg from Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk (Regal Junction) will remain closed to all vehicles in both directions. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed. Motorists are advised to use Shaheed Bhagat Singh Marg, Mahakavi Bhushan Road, and Boman Behram Road as alternative routes.

In addition, the road from Jokhim Alva Chowk (North Court) to Adam Street junction via P. Ramchandani Marg will remain closed for regular traffic. Only emergency vehicles will be allowed.

Commuters traveling from Alva Chowk toward the Radio Club side should take P. Ramchandani Marg, then Haji Niyaz Azmi Road, and continue to Jagannath Palav Chowk (Bhid Bhanjan Mandir). From there, take a right onto Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road, go around Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Chowk (Regal Junction), and then proceed via Shaheed Bhagat Singh Road and Mahakavi Bhushan Marg to reach your destination.

Travelers, especially those using the Western Express Highway, are advised to plan their journey in advance and choose alternate routes to avoid delays.

French President’s Visit Schedule

French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to arrive in Mumbai on February 16. He will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 17, according to the External Affairs Ministry.

After their meeting, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron will travel to New Delhi to attend the AI Impact Summit 2026.
