Kedarnath Temple to Reopen on April 22: Char Dham Yatra Schedule Confirmed

The official schedule for the Char Dham Yatra in the Garhwal Himalayas is now set. The portals of the holy Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand will reopen for devotees on April 22, after being closed for six months during the winter.

How the Opening Date Was Chosen

Harish Gaur, the Public Relations Officer for the Shri Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee, announced the news on Sunday. The auspicious date and time were decided during Mahashivratri celebrations at the Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath, which serves as the winter home of Lord Kedarnath.

Following traditional rituals and special prayers, religious scholars and priests used the Hindu calendar (panchang) to calculate the exact timing. The temple, which is one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas, is scheduled to open its doors at 8:00 AM on April 22.

Celebrations at Omkareshwar Temple

The ceremony at Omkareshwar Temple was a grand event, decorated with nearly 950 kilograms of fresh flowers. The gathering included chief priest Rawal Bhimashankar Ling, Kedarnath MLA Asha Nautiyal, Temple Committee Chairman Hemant Dwivedi, and hundreds of devotees.

Throughout the day, pilgrims offered prayers and joined in chants of “Jai Baba Kedar.” Donors also organized community feasts where visitors shared traditional prasad.

Full Char Dham Yatra Opening Dates

With the announcement for Kedarnath, the dates for the entire Char Dham Yatra are now confirmed:

  • Yamunotri Dham: Opens April 19 (Akshaya Tritiya)
  • Gangotri Dham: Opens April 19 (Akshaya Tritiya)
  • Kedarnath Dham: Opens April 22

Local authorities and temple committees are now preparing for the arrival of thousands of pilgrims for this year’s spiritual journey.
