Air India and IndiGo Planes Involved in Wingtip Collision at Mumbai Airport

A tense situation occurred at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport when the wings of an Air India and an IndiGo aircraft touched during ground movement. While the incident could have been more serious, both planes were carrying passengers at the time.

Details of the Air India Flight

Air India confirmed that flight AI2732, scheduled to fly from Mumbai to Coimbatore on February 3, was delayed. The airline stated that their aircraft made contact with another plane while waiting on the taxiway before takeoff. This resulted in damage to the Air India plane’s wingtip.

As a precaution, the aircraft has been grounded for technical inspections. All passengers were safely taken off the plane, and ground teams arranged alternative flights to their destinations. Air India has reported the incident to aviation regulators and apologized for the inconvenience, emphasizing that safety remains their top priority.

Statement from IndiGo

IndiGo also issued a statement regarding the event. Flight 6E791, arriving from Hyderabad to Mumbai on February 3, 2026, brushed wings with the other aircraft while taxiing after landing.

An IndiGo spokesperson confirmed that all passengers were safe and disembarked normally after the plane parked. The aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance checks. Following standard safety protocols, the airline informed the authorities and is currently investigating the matter.

DGCA Investigation Underway

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed that both aircraft were taxiing when the collision happened. Officers from the Mumbai DGCA arrived at the site shortly after to begin an inspection.

According to the DGCA report:

  • Air India (AI 2732): Was taxiing toward the departure area.
  • IndiGo (6E 791): Was taxiing toward its parking bay after landing.

The right wingtips of both aircraft touched during this movement. Investigations are ongoing to determine how the two planes came into contact.
