Telangana’s New Roadmap: Logistics Policy 2.0 and Master Plan
Telangana is set to become one of India’s top logistics hubs by 2047. The state government aims to support high-value manufacturing and help small businesses (MSMEs) stay competitive. Although Telangana is land-locked, its unique position allows it to act as a bridge between the north and south of India.
The Vision for 2047
Under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, the state is building a technology-driven and globally competitive logistics system. This is a key part of the “Telangana Rising 2047” vision, which targets a $3 trillion economy.
A major focus area is the Peri-Urban Region Economy (PURE). Located between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the upcoming Regional Ring Road (RRR), this zone will host manufacturing centers and logistics clusters that connect rural areas with the city.
Integrated Logistics Master Plan (ILMP)
The new Master Plan will map out freight routes, industrial zones, and export corridors. This data-driven approach ensures that new infrastructure, like warehouses and cargo facilities, is built exactly where it is needed.
Key features of the plan include:
- Multimodal Links: Seamlessly connecting roads, rail, and air travel.
- Tech Adoption: Using Hyderabad’s tech strength to introduce automation and green logistics.
- Direct Sea Access: Developing a dry port near the RRR with a 297 km expressway and rail link directly to Bandar Port in Andhra Pradesh.
Expanding Infrastructure
Building on successful sites like Mangalapally and Batasingaram, the state plans to add 10 to 12 new logistics parks. A major highlight is the upcoming Mega Multimodal Logistics Park at Manoharabad, which will integrate road and rail services.
The government also plans to boost air cargo. While Hyderabad’s airport is already a leader in shipping medicines and electronics, the state wants to expand regional connectivity by redevelopment of the Warangal Airport.
What is Logistics Policy 2.0?
The new policy is built on six main pillars:
- Multimodal Infrastructure: Better integration of road, rail, and air.
- Digital Logistics: Using smart technology for tracking and efficiency.
- Simple Regulations: Reducing paperwork and rules for businesses.
- Sustainability: Promoting “green” practices to protect the environment.
- Skill Development: Training the workforce, with a focus on “Women in Logistics.”
- Innovation: Encouraging new investments and creative business ideas.
By lowering costs and improving speed, Telangana aims to create a resilient supply chain that benefits everyone from large factories to local farmers.
