TCS and GitLab Partner to Launch AI Powered Software Innovation

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has announced a major strategic partnership with GitLab Inc. to bring “agentic” AI and intelligent orchestration to the software development process. This deal follows a similar high-profile announcement from TCS involving OpenAI earlier this month.

The partnership aims to help large companies automate complex coding tasks and speed up innovation while keeping strict security and governance standards in place.

Automating Software Development with GitLab Duo

The core of this deal is the implementation of the GitLab Duo Agent Platform. This platform allows businesses to use both pre-built and custom AI agents to handle specialized tasks. Key features include:

  • Pre-built Agents: Foundational tools like the Planner Agent and Security Analyst Agent to handle routine management and security reviews.
  • Custom Agents: Tailored AI assistants designed to meet specific industry needs.
  • External Integration: Seamless connection with advanced AI models, including Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex CLI.

“Transformation in the AI era requires more than just modern tools; it requires a fundamental rethinking of how software is built and delivered,” said Ashok Krish, Head of AI Practice at TCS. “Our partnership with GitLab is about making AI a reality for the enterprise.”

Faster Delivery for Regulated Industries

TCS will create specific AI workflow templates to help clients see results faster. This is expected to be a major advantage for industries with strict rules, such as banking modernization and the rollout of 5G services in telecommunications.

By using GitLab’s unified platform, TCS will help companies combine many different tools into one system. This makes it easier for teams to see what is happening across their projects and ensures they stay compliant with industry regulations.

A Global Leader in AI

GitLab currently serves more than 50% of the Fortune 100. Alex Picker, VP of Global Ecosystems at GitLab, noted that TCS’s massive global reach is key to helping large companies get the most value out of this AI platform.

TCS, which earned over $30 billion in revenue in the 2025 fiscal year, continues to push toward its goal of becoming the world’s largest AI-led technology services company. The company currently operates in 55 countries with more than 200 service centers.
