PM Modi Introduces ‘MANAV’ Framework for Human-Centric AI
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced ‘Vision MANAV’, a new roadmap for building artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure in India for the global good. Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, the Prime Minister emphasized that AI must focus on human welfare. He stated that people should be seen as partners in progress, not just as sources of data.
Co-creating the Future with AI
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that we are entering an era where humans and intelligent systems will work and evolve together. To prepare for this, he called for a “mass movement” focused on skilling, reskilling, and lifelong learning.
“The future of work must be inclusive, trusted, and human-centric,” the Prime Minister said. He noted that while AI is a transformative power, it needs the right direction to become a solution rather than a disruption. India’s goal is to ensure AI remains sensitive and responsive to human needs.
Understanding the MANAV Framework
The MANAV vision is designed to be a vital link for human welfare in the 21st century. The acronym stands for:
- M: Moral and ethical systems
- A: Accountable governance
- N: National sovereignty
- A: Accessible and inclusive
- V: Valid and legitimate
Beyond this framework, the Prime Minister stressed the urgent need for better safeguards to protect children within the digital world as AI becomes more common.
Empowering the Global South
PM Modi called for the “democratization” of AI to ensure it empowers everyone, especially in the Global South. He compared the management of AI to using GPS: “We must give AI an open sky but also keep the controls in our hands.”
The summit was attended by several global leaders and tech giants, including:
- French President Emmanuel Macron
- Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva
- UN Secretary-General António Guterres
- OpenAI CEO Sam Altman
- Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai
- Tata Group Chairman N Chandrasekaran
India: The New Frontier for AI
The Prime Minister invited the world to “design and develop in India” for the benefit of humanity. He noted that India possesses the talent, energy, and clear policies needed to lead in this field.
To demonstrate this potential, three Indian companies launched their own AI models and apps during the summit. These innovations showcase the talent of India’s youth and the country’s readiness to serve as a major global hub for AI development.
