Mukesh Ambani: India Will Become a Leading Global AI Power

Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani believes India is set to become one of the world’s greatest AI powers in the 21st century. Speaking at the AI India Impact Summit 2026, Ambani shared his vision of how artificial intelligence will bring “super abundance” and unlimited growth in knowledge and productivity.

From the Internet Era to the Intelligence Era

Ambani highlighted that India already has one of the top three startup ecosystems globally. He drew a parallel to the past, noting that just as Jio connected India to the internet, it will now lead the country into the “intelligence era.”

The goal is to bring AI to every citizen, every business, and every government service. Ambani also addressed concerns about technology replacing people, stating that AI will not take away jobs. Instead, it will create new employment opportunities across many different industries.

A Landmark Rs 10 Lakh Crore Investment

To turn this vision into reality, Ambani announced that Jio and Reliance will invest Rs 10 lakh crore over the next seven years.

He emphasized that this is not a speculative move to increase company valuation. Instead, he described it as “nation-building capital” meant to create long-term economic value. Ambani stated that India must build its own intelligence rather than “renting” it from others. By doing so, Reliance aims to lower the cost of AI just as they lowered the cost of data years ago.

Overcoming the “Compute” Challenge

According to Ambani, the biggest hurdle for AI today is not a lack of talent or imagination. The real issue is the high cost and scarcity of computing power.

He noted that for the first time, humans are building systems that can learn, speak, and act on their own. To explain the potential of this technology, he used a famous story from Indian mythology: the Akshaya Patra.

AI as a Modern-Day “Akshaya Patra”

In the Mahabharata, the Akshaya Patra was a divine vessel that provided an endless supply of food. Ambani compared AI to this legendary gift, calling it a “modern-day Akshaya Patra” that can offer limitless value and opportunities to everyone in the country.

By investing in infrastructure and making AI affordable, Reliance aims to ensure that the benefits of this “intelligence era” reach every corner of India.
