Microsoft Adds xAI’s Grok 4.1 Fast to Copilot Studio
Microsoft is expanding its AI toolkit. Starting today, xAI’s Grok 4.1 Fast joins the list of available models inside Copilot Studio. This update gives organizations more flexibility when building their own AI agents.
The rollout begins in the US. The model is currently available in a “preview” version and requires an administrator to turn it on manually.
What is Grok 4.1 Fast?
Grok 4.1 Fast is designed for speed and complex reasoning. It is built to handle large amounts of information, complicated workflows, and advanced tool use. However, it is a text-only system and does not support images or videos.
For now, access is limited to developers in the US using early-access environments. The feature is off by default. This means company administrators must specifically enable it before teams can use it. If no action is taken, your existing AI agents and settings will stay exactly as they are.
Microsoft is currently testing the model to see when it can be released in other regions.
A Strategy of Multiple AI Models
The addition of Grok 4.1 Fast shows Microsoft’s focus on giving users more choices. Copilot Studio already supports models from OpenAI and Anthropic. Adding xAI expands this ecosystem even further.
Microsoft wants Copilot Studio to be a platform where businesses can pick the best model for their specific needs. The company ensures that every model added to the lineup passes strict security, safety, and quality checks before it is released.
Privacy and Data Handling
Data privacy is clearly defined for this new update:
- No Training: When you use Grok 4.1 Fast in Copilot Studio, your data is not stored or used to train xAI’s models.
- External Hosting: These models are hosted outside of Microsoft’s managed environments.
- Direct Terms: Enterprise customers using Grok will have a direct relationship with xAI under xAI’s own terms and data protection agreements.
This move highlights Microsoft’s changing strategy. Instead of sticking to one provider, the company is becoming an “orchestrator.” It provides businesses with organized access to many different AI engines while keeping administrative control in their hands.
