Andhra Pradesh Budget 2026-27: Focus on Welfare and Rural Growth
The Andhra Pradesh government has unveiled its 2026-27 State Budget, totaling over Rs 3.32 lakh crore. The plan focuses on balancing social welfare with long-term development. The budget includes Rs 2.56 lakh crore for revenue expenditure and nearly Rs 54,000 crore for capital investments.
Key Financial Highlights
While presenting the budget in the state assembly, Finance Minister Payyavula Keshav shared the following financial estimates:
- Revenue Deficit: Estimated at Rs 22,000 crore (1.11% of the GSDP).
- Fiscal Deficit: Pegged at nearly Rs 76,000 crore (3.84% of the GSDP).
Major Department Allocations
The 2026-27 budget prioritizes education, health, and rural infrastructure. Key allocations include:
- BC Component: Rs 51,021 crore
- School Education: Rs 32,308 crore
- Panchayati Raj & Rural Development: Nearly Rs 23,000 crore (department led by Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan)
- Health, Medical & Family Welfare: Rs 19,306 crore
A Vision for the Future
Finance Minister Keshav noted that rebuilding the state will take time. He mentioned that Andhra Pradesh has faced significant challenges since its 2014 bifurcation and criticized the “misrule” from 2019 to 2024.
He explained that previous issues, such as the loss of a vibrant capital city and “financial recklessness,” have made the recovery process difficult. However, he described this budget as more than just figures—it is a “roadmap of hope” designed to fulfill the dreams of the state’s five crore residents.
