When Apple launched the iPhone 17 series in September, most attention went to the Pro models. However, the standard iPhone 17 surprised many users by offering strong upgrades and great value. Now, fresh reports suggest Apple is planning an even bigger upgrade with the upcoming iPhone 18 series.
iPhone 18 Series May Get LTPO+ Display Technology
According to reports, Apple is preparing to use next-generation LTPO+ display panels across the entire iPhone 18 lineup. This advanced display technology is expected to deliver better brightness control, smoother performance, and improved power efficiency compared to current LTPO screens.
A report from South Korean publication ETNews claims that Samsung Display and LG Display will be Apple’s main screen suppliers for the iPhone 18 series. Meanwhile, BOE Display, which supplied panels for the iPhone 17 lineup, may be dropped due to quality concerns. The higher complexity of LTPO+ displays is believed to be a key reason behind this shift.
Under-Display IR Sensors and Face ID Expected
One of the biggest highlights of the iPhone 18 series could be the introduction of under-display infrared (IR) sensors. These sensors are expected to support Face ID authentication, suggesting that Apple may finally bring under-display Face ID to its iPhones.
If this happens, it could mark a major design change. The familiar Dynamic Island may be reduced in size or even phased out in future models. Reports suggest the iPhone 18 could feature a cleaner front design, with just a small hole-punch cut-out for the selfie camera.
Dynamic Island May Shrink Further
Tipster ShrimpApplePro recently claimed that the Dynamic Island on iPhone 18 Pro models will become smaller. This change is reportedly due to Face ID components moving under the display, leaving only minimal hardware visible on the front.
Apple Foldable iPhone Also in Development
In addition to the iPhone 18 series, Apple is reportedly working on its first foldable iPhone, expected to launch in 2026. Samsung Display is said to be the exclusive supplier for the foldable screen, which may feature a reduced crease design and open horizontally for a smoother folding experience.
With LTPO+ displays, under-display Face ID, and a cleaner design, the iPhone 18 series could represent one of Apple’s biggest iPhone upgrades in years.
