Adani Power Subsidiary Secures 558 MW Contract for Tamil Nadu

Adani Power, India’s largest private power producer, announced on Tuesday that its subsidiary, Moxie Power Generation Ltd. (MPGL), has received a Letter of Award (LoA) to supply 558 MW of electricity to Tamil Nadu.

The contract was awarded by the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corp. (TNPDCL) and covers a five-year period.

Reliable Power at Competitive Rates

Moxie Power operates a large 1,200 MW power plant in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu. The company won the contract after emerging as the lowest bidder in a competitive process, offering a tariff of ₹5.91 per unit. Under the agreement, power supply is scheduled to begin on April 1, 2026.

Strengthening Revenue and Stability

With this new deal, both units of the Tuticorin plant now have formal power supply agreements in place. Currently, more than 95% of Adani Power’s total operating capacity is secured through medium to long term contracts.

These long-term agreements are important because they:

  • Provide steady income: The company has clear visibility of its future revenue.
  • Reduce risk: It protects the business from sudden price changes in the short-term energy market.

Adani Power aims to have 100% of its operational and upcoming plants tied to long-term contracts in the future.

Benefits for Tamil Nadu Consumers

This agreement is expected to be a major win for electricity users in Tamil Nadu. By adding 558 MW of reliable power to the grid, the deal will help:

  • Improve grid stability: Ensuring a more consistent flow of electricity.
  • Support growth: Providing uninterrupted power for homes, local businesses, and large industries.
  • Ensure affordability: By securing power at a competitive rate, consumers can expect more dependable and affordable energy in the coming years.
