Delhi Landmarks and Schools Receive Bomb Threats: Security Increased

Security has been tightened across India’s capital after a series of threat emails targeted the Delhi Legislative Assembly, the Red Fort, and several schools. While the threats were later declared hoaxes, security agencies conducted extensive searches as a precautionary measure.

Delhi Police confirmed that nothing suspicious was found. They also noted that the emails mentioned a Khalistani group.

Key Locations Targeted

The threats targeted several high-profile locations and educational institutions:

  • Delhi Secretariat: The fire department received a call at 12 noon. Teams were sent immediately, but no explosives were found.
  • Delhi Legislative Assembly: The email was sent to the official ID of the Speaker. The premises were evacuated for two hours while the bomb disposal squad searched the building.
  • Schools: Army Public School in Dhaula Kuan and Air Force Bal Bharti School on Lodhi Road both received threats.
  • Red Fort: The historical monument was also mentioned in the threat emails.

The emails claimed that blasts would occur at specific times throughout the day, including the Army school at 1:11 pm, the Vidhan Sabha (Assembly) at 3:11 pm, and the Red Fort at 9:11 am.

Police Investigation and Cyber Tracking

Although the threats were hoaxes, officials took no chances. Premises were evacuated and searched by bomb disposal units and dog squads.

A senior police official told PTI that cyber teams are now working to trace the IP addresses of the senders. Investigators found that the culprits used Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) to hide their identity and mislead the police. Despite these tactics, experts are confident they will identify those responsible.

Public Safety Concerns

The incident has caused concern among residents and leaders. Dilip K. Pandey, an Aam Aadmi Party leader and former MLA, shared on X (formerly Twitter) that he also received a threat on his personal email.

“Since the matter was related to public safety, I immediately forwarded the email to the Delhi Police,” Pandey stated.

Authorities continue to remain on high alert at all major installations and metro stations to ensure public safety.
