Indian Armed Forces Get Major Boost with ₹3.60 Lakh Crore Defence Deal

The Indian Armed Forces are set for a significant upgrade. On Thursday, the Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) approved several capital acquisition proposals worth a total of ₹3.60 lakh crore.

Strengthening the Indian Air Force (IAF)

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) confirmed that the “Acceptance of Necessity” (AoN) has been granted for several key projects. This includes the purchase of Rafale Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA), advanced combat missiles, and Air-Ship Based High Altitude Pseudo Satellites (AS-HAPS).

According to the Ministry, the new Rafale aircraft will allow the Indian Air Force to maintain air dominance during conflicts. These jets will also strengthen India’s deterrence strategy by providing the ability to conduct long-range offensive strikes.

Focus on Domestic Manufacturing

In a move to support local industry, the government confirmed that the majority of these new fighter aircraft will be manufactured within India.

Advanced Missile and Surveillance Technology

The approved deal also includes high-tech equipment designed to modernize military operations:

  • Combat Missiles: these will improve ground-attack capabilities, allowing for high-accuracy strikes from a safe distance.
  • AS-HAPS Technology: These high-altitude satellites will be used for constant intelligence gathering, electronic surveillance, and remote sensing to support military missions.
